If you live with rabbits, you quickly learn one important truth:
Nothing is truly bunny-proof.
Not blankets. Â
Not baseboards. Â
Not expensive phone chargers. Â
And apparently⌠not antique lamp cords either.
At 3am this morning, BunBun somehow managed to perform what can only be described as a tiny criminal heist.
She dug out the cord to my antique bedside lamp â a cord that was hidden behind furniture, tucked between the wall, threaded through bed rails, and even protected with a cord cover.
Somehow, she still managed to pull the cord through everything and chew it clean in half.
At 3am. Â
While I was sleeping.
Rabbit owners know this feeling all too well. The moment you think something is impossible to reach suddenly becomes your bunnyâs newest life mission.
Living with free-roam rabbits means learning to see your home differently. Curious little noses and determined teeth can turn ordinary household items into hazards surprisingly fast.
A few bunny-proofing tips that have helped in my home:
⢠Use heavy-duty cord protectors whenever possible Â
⢠Block gaps behind furniture and beds Â
⢠Keep tempting cords completely out of reach if possible Â
⢠Rotate enrichment toys regularly to reduce boredom chewing Â
⢠Never underestimate a determined rabbit
⢠If you hear scratching or digging while youâre in a deep sleep, donât ignore it, get up and check to see if your bunny is discovering a new tastey household item to chew on. Safety first!Â
The truth is, bunny-proofing is never really âfinished.â Rabbits are intelligent, curious, and incredibly persistent little creatures.
And honestly? Even after the chaos⌠we still adore them.
